Edinburgh

A capital city and the jewel in Scotland’s crown, Edinburgh can happily play host to whatever kind of wedding you can imagine, from cosmopolitan and contemporary to deeply romantic and traditional. The city centre, split into two halves by the Castle Rock, sees a large planned New Town of neo-classical and Georgian architecture and the Old Town, where the Royal Mile runs from the Castle down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Monuments and museums are around every corner, and not many cities in the UK -- or anywhere else -- can say there’s a volcano just across the road from the Parliament building. Arthur’s Seat is that volcano, and it sits in a large park on the eastern side of the centre of town. Portobello, a couple of miles to the east of Princes Street, has a traditional seafront and beach.

Edinburgh’s also famously home to several of the world’s largest arts festivals. Most of them happen all over the city during August and early September, but the long-running International Film Festival now happens in June. This gracious city is more than capable of hosting you and all of your wedding guests year ‘round, but you’ll still want to check with your venue about peak tourism and event dates to avoid unnecessary chaos!
