North Yorkshire
The majority of the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors lie within North Yorkshire's boundaries, and around 40% of the county is covered by national parks. Also referred to as Yorkshire, North Riding, the area takes in the cities of Middlesbrough, York, Harrogate & Scarborough. The Northern end of the Yorkshire coastline is designed as a Heritage Coast and boasts the highest point on the east coast of England. The shoreline alternates between rugged rocky beaches and glorious stretches of white sand. The Moors have 3 distinct landscapes - the moorlands, which are covered in heather, the pasture lands which are lush and green, and the woodlands. The area is rich with ancient sites and over 700 monuments. There are over 2,300km of trails. In July, temperatures average at 16° however September is the driest month for North Yorkshire.
